The Adidas Originals store in Wicker Park has been a fixture since 2017, when it relocated from the Gold Coast area. Spanning an impressive 5,000 square feet, the new location was the largest Adidas Originals store in the world at the time of its opening. One of the most striking aspects of the store is how it seamlessly integrates elements of Chicago's unique character while showcasing innovative concepts from the global brand.

On my most recent visit, I had the pleasure of exploring some standout pieces from the new winter collection. Among the highlights were Messi’s signature pink-and-black Samba sneakers. The Inter Miami-inspired color scheme, featuring vibrant flamingo pink, adds a colorful accent.

Another showstopper was the re-issued Argentina gray-and-blue tracksuit, commemorating 50 years of partnership between the Argentine national team and adidas. While Messi’s original club, Newell’s Old Boys, wasn’t featured, Adidas more than made up for it with eye-catching Boca Juniors and River Plate tracksuits, rounding out a rich and eclectic Argentinian collection for the season.

Beyond La Albiceleste, Adidas also offered an array of other commemorative pieces. One standout was the AS Roma tracksuit, a reissue of their 1993 design. Its understated elegance highlights the iconic city colors and, of course, the legendary She-Wolf, a timeless symbol of Rome.

Another gem was the 1967–68 Manchester United George Best tracksuit, a beautiful nod to the club’s history. This piece perfectly illustrates the rich soccer heritage that Adidas continues to celebrate. As a fan of classic kit designs, I couldn’t help but feel excited about Liverpool’s upcoming partnership with adidas—a rekindling of their iconic collaboration from years past, bolstered by the brand’s recent initiative to revive these timeless styles.

Since its debut in the heart of Wicker Park, the store has continued to connect with the local community. It incorporates installations by local artists and draws inspiration from the nearby transit system. From the use of materials that echo the train line to its aesthetic mirroring the industrial vibe of Chicago’s neighborhoods, the store embodies a perfect blend of global influence and local identity.
